WELCOME:
The Our Lady of Lourdes Preschool welcomes you to the our school community! Our community includes the OLL Children's Center which houses preschool, transitional kindergarten, and kindergarten, the elementary and junior high schools, church, parish, and surrounding community. The values of the home, school, and church are of the utmost importance. You are a part of the family that ensures these values are nurtured.
INTRODUCTION:
Our Lady of Lourdes Preschool is designed to provide a quality faith-based, developmentally appropriate program ministering in the Spirit of Christ to children ages three to five years old. Our preschool offers a developmentally appropriate curriculum with an emphasis on self-help skills, respect for self and others, and hands-on experiences. Children are encouraged to seek mastery through exploration and experimentation in addition to being taught basic pre-reading and math skills. Our enriched curriculum has been created to invite young learners to actively engage in the world around them.
As part of the Our Lady of Lourdes faith community, the preschool will be involved in many of the activities sponsored by Our Lady of Lourdes elementary and junior high school, as well as the church.
At OLL Preschool, we believe that a low teacher to child ratio allows more opportunities for learning, building secure attachments with caregivers, and maintains a higher level of safety and trust. Our preschool classrooms are staffed with one teacher and one aide for every fifteen children. The on-site director oversees the entire program and is available to assist in the classrooms. Parent volunteers are welcomed and encouraged.
Our Lady of Lourdes Preschool is a cooperative learning environment acknowledging parents as the primary educators of their children and teachers as facilitators of the learning process. The OLL Preschool sees parents as an integral part of the program. Daily communication is facilitated through ongoing dialogue with the staff, as well as announcements, newsletters, and bulletins. The Parent Information Board posts updated information for families.
The preschool follows Our Lady of Lourdes School’s School-wide Learning Expectations (SLE) by helping our children to become: Responsible Citizens, Self Aware Individuals, Effective Communicators, Life Long Learners and Faith-filled Catholics.
These expectations are encouraged by helping our young learners care about people, animals, and nature, self discovery, awareness of feelings and ideas, and developing a friendship with Jesus.
Philosophy
Our Lady of Lourdes School is a faith-filled parish school founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The OLL Preschool continues the tradition of the Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary to educate the mind, body, and spirit to its full potential. With Christ as our foundation, love and charity are woven into classroom instruction and school activities.
Our Lady of Lourdes Preschool recognizes parents as the primary educators working in a positive partnership with parish and school to create a faith community that inspires its members to live as Jesus lives.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we unite with one another in the single purpose of influencing the educational and spiritual journey of each student. Our Lady of Lourdes Preschool works to enhance the development and growth of the whole child through interactions and activities that focus on skills in all areas of spiritual, social/emotional, language and cognitive perceptual, moral, and physical development.
Transitional Kindergarten (Age 5 before september 2)
Our Lady of Lourdes Transitional Kindergarten, is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program. It is meant for students who do not meet the age requirement of 5 years old for kindergarten but, shortly will be turning 5 years old. TK is a bridge between a more flexible play and learning environment to the more structured kindergarten classroom environment. At Our Lady of Lourdes School, we nurture the individual child and build a strong home to school connection in order to foster the growth of some of our youngest students.
The TK teacher prepares a wide range of developmentally appropriate activities and experiences where young children learn best. The TK program is child-centered and focuses on the whole child. The day is balanced with small group and individual opportunities, indoor and outdoor activities, active and calm time, including free choice and teacher-directed lessons.
