ALTAR SERVING – is open to students of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in grades 3 – 8. Altar servers assist the presider during the liturgy. They attend a class once a month to help them learn what is required of them as well as keep their skills sharp. Service is performed at the weekend Masses, at the 7:45 a.m. daily Mass and during school Masses. With additional training, some servers assist at funerals and weddings.

To learn more and/or express your interest in becoming an Altar Server, please contact: The Parish Office at 818-352-3218

CHOIR – Students in grades 3 – 8 meet weekly on Tuesday afternoons after school to practice singing together. The choir sings at 10:30 a.m. mass every second Sunday of the month. They also sing at the Christmas Eve Mass, the Easter Vigil and has a Spring concert each year. There are times that the choir is required to practice additional days as they prepare for the special masses and concert.

DRAMA –From January to May the OLL Jr. High is abuzz with anticipation for the Jr. High Production.   We have many opportunities for parent and student involvement.  Students work diligently after school as actors and crew members to prepare an entertaining show for our school and outside community.  Parents also contribute their time, talent, or treasure to help students develop skills useful in theater as well as in life.  Past productions have included Cinderella Jr.Seussical Jr., and Annie Jr.  It is a highly rewarding experience for anyone involved.  This year OLL is, once again, excited to put on another great show.  Check the newsletter on our website for more details and we look forward to seeing you at the theater!

FAMILY DAY – The OLL School Family program is a way to bring together children from different grade levels and give them the opportunity to form meaningful connections with their peers.

Each student is assigned a school family and each family has a student from each grade level. Families meet once a month for family activities. The activities are connected to our School wide Learning Expectations and encourage conversation and reflection.

MUSIC CURRICULUM – The Music Curriculum at Our Lady of Lourdes consists of Music History, Theory, Performance technique, and Performance.  Each section is grade appropriate.  Probably the most important part of each of these subjects is effort.

Some examples of content at each grade level are:

  • Kindergarten:  rhythm activities, singing, lines and spaces in treble and bass clefs, basic notation, performances.
  • Grades 1,2, & 3: note identification, time signature, instruments, i.e., handbell instruction, recorders, composer study, listening term identification.
  • Grades 4 & 5:  Instrument performance, choral performance, composer study, music literature recognition, notation, music symbols, and terms.

Grades 6, 7, & 8:  Emphasis on performance, genres, musicals, music reading and symbols, research for presentation.

Students learn by doing, and exhibiting effort in that process.
