Founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes School welcomed its first pupils on September 13, 1949. The BVM sisters personified their core values of freedom, education, charity, and justice in ministry and mission.
Our last Sister of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary retired in 2007 after celebrating her golden jubilee. The charism today is the same as it always was with the Sisters present. Their motto of “Live simply so others can simply live” is embedded in the teachings of all the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes School.
Our Lady of Lourdes School is nestled in the foothills of the Angeles National Forest, in the eastern San Fernando Valley above Sunland. We are located within the Los Angeles Unified School District. We serve grades TK – 8, and provide area families with younger children our Rose Cottage Preschool. Rose Cottage is a quality faith-based, developmentally appropriate program ministering in the Spirit of Christ to children ages three to five years old. many of whom continue to the elementary school and finishing in our junior high graduating as 8th graders.
